I'm guessing it's the movie & not a pro shot of the play. The movie is really good. Stay awake, PAN!!! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] It's really worth it. I just wish they were filming the play.
Actually, they probably are filming it. Lincoln Center has an archive of films of Broadway shows. Sadly, they only make it available for research - except for a deal they have with PBS that allows them to occasionally broadcast a show. They're fundraising this week & have shown "Next To Normal" and "Yellow Face". I'm hoping they'll show more, but who knows.

This is the play they will broadcast. This will be the first time ever a broadway show will be broadcasting live : https://x.com/cnnpr/status/1923143710365319367?s=61LizzyNY wrote:I'm guessing it's the movie & not a pro shot of the play. Hi Annegc1! Welcome & thank you so much for the link. I'm amazed that they're doing this. I've been having an ongoing conversation with a YT poster who keeps telling me the million reasons why Broadway shows aren't filmed for people who can't get to the theater.Apparently it isn't as complicated as he thinks. This is great news. I can't wait until June 7th.

I had to look up transparent pie. I've never had it but it sounds delicious. Apparently, George thinks so, too.

ktsue2002 - I'd love to know what you thought of the play and how seeing it in the theater compared to seeing it on tv. I know the two are very different, but did you find the tv version as good, different or not as good?

Well, what a shame. Not a hope in hell of getting to see this - the system, including payment - is far too complicated for me.
Would have been easier to get a flight and book a ticket for a live performance.
Can access CNN via the British annual TV licence- but not this

PAN - That stinks. So, even though you can get CNN for free they were charging a fee to see this? Was it expensive? (I ask because tickets to the play were through the roof. They keep saying it's the highest grossing play in forever - but if you charge HUGE ticket prices, of course you'll make boatloads of $$. Especially with a star like George to draw an audience.) It was free on cable tv here.
TBH, I thought the movie was better. George was really good in the play. He deserved the Tony nomination. But I thought the production as a whole was a bit disjointed and more difficult to follow than the film. I expect the in-theater experience was more engaging.
George seems to be pretty involved with streaming platforms. I heard him say in an interview that he was glad people who couldn't come to the theater were able to see the play, so maybe in the not-too-far future GN&GL will show up on Netflix or HULU or some such. Add it to your wish list (like I have Ball & Boe performing in NYC on mine.

Thanks for the link as well. I was able to watch it. I was impressed with George's portrayal of Murrow.

Ida - Did you see the movie? If you did, which did you like better - the movie or the play?

I did watch the movie where he played Fred but that was 20 years ago!! My memory is fuzzy on it.
I enjoyed the play more... I was very impressed with George's imitation of Murrow's speech patterns.

Ida - That really impressed me, too. To be honest, I wasn't sure he could pull it off, but I was pleasantly surprised. He really gave an excellent performance.
I'm a bit fuzzy on the movie, too, but I seem to remember it being easier to follow than the play. Too many of the scenes - especially at the beginning -seemed disconnected. Maybe it made more sense if you were sitting in the theater.
