George Clooney celebrated his 64th birthday on the Broadway stage.
The Oscar winner, who turned 64 on Tuesday, May 6, was photographed with a smile on his face after he performed in Good Night, and Good Luck at the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City. The actor shook hands with fans gathered outside the theater's stage door and signed autographs after the birthday night performance, which came days after the star received a Tony Award nomination for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play for his Broadway debut.
Clooney wore a black leather jacket, brown slacks, sunglasses and a white ball cap, which hid the black hair that Clooney has dyed to accurately embody 20th century journalist Edward R. Murrow on the stage.
He is nominated at the upcoming 78th Tony Awards alongside Cole Escola (Oh, Mary!), Jon Michael Hill (Purpose), Daniel Dae Kim (Yellow Face), Harry Lennix (Purpose) and Louis McCartney (Stranger Things: The First Shadow).

It’s good to be George Clooney at age 64. The actor-filmmaker, who’s celebrating his birthday on Tuesday, May 6, is having another career high amid his happy life as husband to Amal and father to twins Alexander and Ella at their country house in Europe.
The Oscar winner continues to balance family with work in Hollywood both in front of and behind the camera. After starring in and producing last year’s Wolfs opposite longtime pal Brad Pitt, he’ll next lead Jay Kelly, in theaters Nov. 14 and debuting on Netflix Dec. 5, with Adam Sandler, Laura Dern, Billy Crudup and more. The Noah Baumbach film released a first image of George just today, along with a tagline about the titular character he’s playing: “Everybody knows Jay Kelly, but Jay Kelly doesn’t know himself.”
George’s production company Smokehouse Pictures is also juggling multiple projects on the horizon including documentary Surviving Ohio State, about the decades-long abuse scandal at Ohio State University’s athletic department.

But it’s a long-awaited debut that is making the Ocean’s Eleven star the talk of the town — New York City, to be exact. Broadway play Good Night, and Good Luck, which George stars in as 20th century broadcast journalist Edward R. Murrow and co-wrote with longtime screen collaborator Grant Heslov, opened April 3 at the Winter Garden Theatre. Amid a Hollywood-heavy theater season, the leading man turned his acclaimed Broadway debut into one of the show’s five nominations at this year's Tony Awards, to be held June 8.
The adaptation of George’s 2005 movie is such a success, in fact, it broke an impressive record. Good Night, and Good Luck is as of now the highest grossing play in Broadway history, becoming the first play to surpass $4 million in a single week, per Deadline, for the week ending May 4.

Celebrating George’s success at his play’s star-studded opening were many of his former collaborators. Among them were costars from the career-launching drama that started it all: ER’s Julianna Margulies, Noah Wyle and Anthony Edwards. “He's been wanting to play Edward R. Murrow for so many years, that for him to actually fulfill his dream is pretty spectacular,” Edwards, 62, told PEOPLE.
Also at the show’s opening, Richard Kind proved that George is not just a prolific artist; he also has a strong network of close friends. “As much as [people] think he's a great guy, he's better,” Kind, 68, shared with PEOPLE.

Of course, George’s biggest accomplishment may be his marriage of 10 years to Amal, 47. Not only are the duo raising their 7-year-olds out of the spotlight in Europe, they’re active philanthropists whose Clooney Foundation for Justice continues to provide free legal support to victims of abuses of power around the globe.
Speaking to PEOPLE at last September’s The Albies, the couple’s annual event in New York City honoring social justice warriors, George teased how he would be celebrating a decade of marriage. “I'm taking her somewhere tonight,” he said, “but she doesn't know where.”

Although she missed Good Night, and Good Luck’s premiere, Amal continues to be George’s date at events around the world. On CBS Mornings recently, George said that he and the human rights lawyer are "having a really great time in life." They "still haven't" gotten into an argument in their relationship, he said, joking, "We’re trying to find something to fight about.”
Their kids, he added, are “really curious and funny. Every parent thinks their kids are great — our kids are funny and make us laugh."

As George’s career continues to thrive, it’s Amal who clearly makes him certain he’s “hit the jackpot,” as he said on CBS Mornings. “There isn’t a day that goes by where I don’t think I’m the luckiest man in the world.”
