PAN - The link opened for me, but the page is obscured unless I subscribe to The Times - which I refuse to do. I've seen other coverage re: the box office take of GNGL and Othello (Denzel Washington & Jake Gyllenhal) - both are raking in record $$$ - and both are charging record breaking ticket prices. I'm guessing the early audiences for these two shows are mainly friends of the actors, people of the show biz world & people with $$$ to spare. With ticket prices as high as these are it's not surprising they're setting box office records. I'll be interested to see what happens after the previews & first nights, when the show business crowds have all seen these shows & they have to depend on regular audiences.
I guess I've said this before, but it seems the theater here will soon be something only the rich can afford. I know it's expensive to mount a show, but if there's going to be an audience in the future something needs to change - especially now that foreign tourism is going down the drain.

Sorry, I'm a fan but I would not pay $775.00 to see this play.

I saw it. Yes I paid the money. No I didn’t get to meet him. He signed autographs after I left. Do I regret not hanging out any longer in the pack of sardine fans? No, but I’m glad I went. I saw him live. I didn’t throw my bra at him. Wanted to, but didn’t. lol

ktsue2002 -What did you think of the play? Do you think it was worth the money? Was George's performance what you expected?
The reviews I saw were mixed and the reason they're breaking box office records is because they're charging higher ticket prices - not bigger crowds, just more money per seat - although so far tickets are selling well.

The theatre is full every day. This is the main reason why they have already broken several records.LizzyNY wrote:ktsue2002 -What did you think of the play? Do you think it was worth the money? Was George's performance what you expected?

I was able to watch it. And I didn’t pay anything near $700 for my seat. And it was a very good seat. Was it expensive ? Yes , it was. So are most of the Broadway shows anyway. And they only play it for 99 times. And it might be the only time George would be on Broadway. This is a rarity. And people feel that it worth it since it’s full of the time.
I can tell you that the play was so good, and so timely good. And George is amazing in it. He is literally Murrow. He got him so right. His voice was so different too.it is very similar to the film, except the ending and there are a few new dialogues that make echo with what occurs right now.
I’ m so proud to be one of his fans and see how much risks he is willing to take, especially at such a time of his career. And it such an experience to see how the crowd can react throughout the play. The feeling was wonderful.
I could also see George after the play. He was such a class act with everybody, fans, others actors from the play, bodyguards and so on.
It definitely worth every dollars I paid to see him in a play, perhaps the only time in both his and my time
