'Good Night, and Good Luck,' a new play by George Clooney. COURTESY OF GOODNIGHT AND GOOD LUCK
Good Night, and Good Luck, the upcoming Broadway play penned by George Clooney and Grant Heslov, has released a new trailer with Clooney portraying famed journalist Edward R. Murrow.
The play is scheduled to begin previews at the Winter Garden Theatre on March 12, 2025, with an opening night set for April 3. Clooney will also make his Broadway debut in the play, which is currently scheduled to run through June 8. Additional casting has yet to be announced.
The stage play is based on the 2005 film written by Clooney and Heslov. It follows Murrow’s clash with U.S. Sen. Joseph McCarthy as Murrow pushes to continue reporting on McCarthy’s anti-communist efforts. David Cromer, who won a Tony Award for his direction of The Band’s Visit, will direct the production.
In the trailer, shot in black-and-white, Clooney sits at a CBS broadcast desk and speaks to the camera as scenes of a busy newsroom and political unrest are interspersed.
“There are a certain kind of people wired a certain kind of way who know there’s a story behind the story, if you’re bold enough to search for it, if you’re passionate enough to speak out, if you’re brave enough to stand up to the forces determined to keep you silent, no matter the consequences,” Clooney says.
“There are a certain kind of people who are the lifeblood of democracy. Never wavering. Never faltering. Never straying in their pursuit of what matters,” he continues. “And what matters? Honesty. Facts. Integrity. Accuracy. Truth.”

Annemarie - I caught the tail end of the trailer Sunday morning. It looks good. If the ticket prices aren't higher than my rent I might try to see it - maybe in previews, because it should be cheaper then. Do you think you'll try to go?

Re: George's Broadway Dates Announced
Annemarie - I just checked out the Winter Garden site to see what ticket prices might be like. The site is a bit annoying to use, so I didn't check all available dates, but the prices I saw aren't great.
The lowest price I saw was $158 for a mezzanine seat in mid-March. Other prices ranged from close to $200 for mezzanine seats to close to $3000 for orchestra seats. For me that would probably be @$200 for a ticket & another $50-60 for transit (Can't take the subway - too many stairs). I'm not sure I like George that much. I'm thinking it over.
I just saw an article bemoaning the fact that families & young people don't go to the theater. If they're wondering why, I'd just point them to their ticket prices. People are having trouble paying rent & putting food on the table. The theater is out of reach for most NYC residents. I'm sure the tourists & the 1% will love the play.

I agree Lizzy the prices are why people can't go to the theater. That is too much for me as well.

Hi! I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
I keep thinking that if I lived in the city I could take a bus or taxi to the theater (or even walk if I lived close enough) & save the $50-60 transport would cost me on top of the ticket price. But I don't, so seeing the show would definitely cost me over $200.
Maybe they'll do a pro shot for a DVD so people who aren't rich can see it too. I doubt it, but I hope they will.
Anyway, enjoy the leftovers & stay warm! Looks like winter might finally be here.

Re: George's Broadway Dates Announced
Mm, when we went to Broadway a little while ago I remember thinking that the prices were a bit high, but I wasn't sure if that was because that particular theatre seemed to be a bit smaller - and of course a name like George's is likely to put the prices up, especially if he's only doing a few performances.
I thought the film was absolutely brilliant - I hope this production lives up to that.

Re: George's Broadway Dates Announced
PAN - Actually tickets go from close to $200 to close to $3000 for orchestra seats. I don't care who's in a show, I'm not paying $3000. It's disgusting that they even have the nerve to charge that much.
I know costs are high to mount any kind of show, but Broadway ticket prices are out of reach for most average New Yorkers unless it's a once-in-a-long-while treat. Can you imagine wanting to take your child(ren) to a show knowing it will cost close to $1000? That's a good chunk of a months rent. Even the Radio City Christmas Show is expensive now, and that used to be an annual tradition for many families (low cost to see the stage show AND a movie! - no movie now.)
It's offensive, but well known, that the target audience for Broadway shows is tourists and the rich. They'll pay almost any price. Most locals might just as well live in China for all the access we have to theater.
Carrie Hope Fletcher just posted that she'd favor pro shot movie theater showings or DVDs of shows because too many people are priced out of seeing theater in the UK, so I guess it's not just our problem. What do you think?
(
Sorry for ranting. I really wanted to see George's play & it looks like it won't be possible. I'm ticked!)

Wow! Those are some seriously expensive theatre tickets!
I'm trying to remember the last time he might have been on stage? Surely it's before he moved into TV and film right?

He did take part in an on-stage reading of a play in LA a few years ago. It was an ensemble piece with an impressive cast, but for the life of me I can't think of the name of it. I tried to find it, but couldn't. Sorry. (
Glad to see you back!)

It was called 8, about when California voted down resolution 8 which would have allowed gay people there to marry. Of course it’s legal everywhere in the USA.

Re: George's Broadway Dates Announced
Ktsue - Thanks for the reminder. I remember watching "8" online. I might even have it saved somewhere. I just couldn't remember the name.
Are you in the NYC area? I am, but not in Manhattan so getting to the theater is a problem - physically and financially. Also, the ticket prices are pretty high, so that's a factor.
I used to run around the city day and night and never thought twice about jumping on the subway to get somewhere or go home, but times have changed. I have a back injury that keeps me from climbing all those subway stairs and alternate transport is $$$. Add that to high ticket prices and "GN&GL" might just be out of my $$ bracket. I'm kind of hoping they'll do a pro-shot of the play & put it out on DVD. I'd definitely buy it.
If you do go, tell us all about it and let us know what you think of the play. You said you hope to meet him "again". When did you meet him before?

Re: George's Broadway Dates Announced
I met him in 2008. I was newspaper reporter for a few years in my 20s. I got really sick and needed a kidney transplant, so I switched careers to be a social worker. My friend gave me a kidney and I couldn’t repay her, so decided to spend the rest of my life helping others!

Envy from London here - sorry I can't nip over to see it!?!. Hoping that there may be a dvd or similar done (with maybe the profits going to charity?)
I too have met George - he held open the door of a London hotel for me!! Quite where the concierge was I'm not sure....

I have tickets. I got another kidney transplant back last April, after spending another three years on dialysis. My parents died in the last 9 years, and I had some inheritance for this and another trip to Europe this summer. A lot had to line up for this to be possible for me.
