June Chit Chat

Thought since the month is almost over we should at least try to get in a few posts. IF anyone wants to hear something absolutely gorgeous and soul-healing check out Mat and Savannah Shaw on Michael Ball's Father's Day show on BBC Radio 2. Their rendition of Prie Jesu is amazing! (For people in the US, I listen on YouTube.) The show will be available for a couple of weeks.

Thanks Lizzy.  Sounds lovely.  However the month of June (well actually starting in late May) has been somewhat hellish here.  We had to deal with the 17-year invasion of cicadas.  They come out of the ground when the soil is warm enough.  They are more prolific where there are old and well established trees.  They are big and goofy.  They don’t fly well and easily run into people, land on them and yes they freaked me out.  Some people consider them a delicacy.  Even served in some restaurants.  Whatever?!  It’s been pretty stressful but they are almost all dead now.  Now comes the cleanup.  Yuk!

Donnamarie - You have my complete sympathy! We've been blessed so far, in that they haven't turned up here this time but I remember what it was like when they did. OMG! The noise! And they were everywhere! When they started dying they were so thick on the ground it was like walking on piles of crunchy dried leaves. Ugh! The good thing is that it doesn't last too long - and it should be over for you guys pretty soon. (How anyone can eat them is beyond me. YUCK!)

If you want to soothe your frazzled nerves do take a listen to Mat and Savannah Shaw. They're on YouTube as well as on MB's radio show and they're wonderful. Listening to them sing Prie Jesu is as close to heaven as you can get.
