Rosemary Clooney Room to be dedicated at the Blue Wisp

The Blue Wisp Jazz Club will celebrate what would have been Rosemary Clooney’s 84th birthday on May 23 by renaming its music performance area the “Rosemary Clooney Room.”

The 8:30 p.m. event will be the “official opening” for the club’s new location at Seventh and Race Sts., downtown, said co-owner and artistic director Ed Felson.

Singer Mary Ellen Tanner and the Blue Wisp Big Band, led by drummer John Von Ohlen, that night will salute the iconic vocalist who started her career on WLW-AM in 1945.

Clooney was presented a lifetime achievement Grammy Award in 2002, several months before her death. She was 74.

Probably so. Nick was very close to Rosemary and Betty Clooney, and Nina regarded them not as sisters-in-law, but sisters.

Yes, since the Clooney siblings (Rosemary, Betty, and Nick) spent much of their childhood years in the west side of Cincinnati. When I was growing up in Cincinnati, the Clooney's were a favorite topic of conversation among the adults that I knew.

I think this is the club that GTC took the cast of 'Ides of March' to one evening, when they were on location, isn't it? Ryan Gosling said he really loved it

Sounds like a great place. My kind of music, but I'm thousands of miles away....

Yes, the Blue Wisp was featured in the "The Ides of March" movie, were there was a piano player in the scene. The Blue Wisp is the Number One jazz club in the Cincinnati area. George took his major castmembers, along with his parents to an evening at the Jazz club while he was filming the movie here.
